SUMMARYYoung ladies entering 6th or 7th grade are invited to explore camping, hiking, and how great it is to be a girl! We will spend time by the falls, walk along the rocks, hike the trails, and spend an afternoon at the beach in Duluth. We will attend daily Mass at the local Catholic Church, learn to have personal prayer time each day, and stop in at a Eucharistic adoration chapel. Discussions will include the beauty of being a girl (femininity), being an unrepeatable person, learning how to love as God loves, giving and receiving love, and receptivity to the Lord.

LOCATION:  Jay Cooke State Park, MN

AGE RANGE:  Open to young ladies, entering 6th or 7th grade; limit of 15 participants.

DATES: August 10-14, 2015

REGISTRATION FORMS  |   CREDIT CARD PAYMENT   |   GEAR LIST

COST:

  • $340  (includes 5 days of food, camping, fees, and transportation from Minneapolis)
  • $200 deposit due with registration forms June 26 / remainder due July 20
  • Deposit is non-refundable after deadline; refund of remaining fee only in case of emergency.

LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY:  Beginner to moderate.  Hiking will include trails that are up to 5 miles in length; somewhat hilly, uneven and rocky ground.  Very rocky/slanted river shore.  This is a “basecamp” style trip, meaning that we will be driving to our campsites, setting up there, and leaving each day to hike around different areas of the park.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:  On Monday, participants and their parent(s) can optionally plan to meet for 8am Mass at St. Charles Borromeo, then at 8:45 am in the parking lot of Into the Deep’s office (or the north entry in case of rain).   Check-in will take place outside (weather permitting) or in Suite 108.  Our anticipated return time will be 3:30 pm on Friday.

Our journey will be taken via 8 or 15-passenger vans and will be led by Jen Messing and one or two other adult women (background and driver checks will have been completed).   Jay Cooke State Park is a little over 2 hours north of the Twin Cities; we will take necessary breaks along the way.

These trips are designed to be “family style” in that we share daily “chores” (meal prep, clean up, etc.), we wait for one another, and we share tent space (one adult woman will camp next to each tent, which will hold approx. 5 youth).

Please do not bring electronic devices; they will be collected (including cell phones) at the start of the retreat with the expectation that they will not be used unless there is an emergency (NOTE: the area we will hike has unreliable phone coverage).  The ladies are expected to participate in daily prayer times and Mass; we will be driving into town for daily Mass and offering one experience of Eucharistic adoration.

Invite friends to join you or come by yourself – we look forward to meeting you!
